This actually turned out to be amazing as the weather was perfect and my reservation was at 7:15 in June. I dined on filet mignon with prawns and a side of roasted garlic mashers with citrus thyme asparagus and ate while dusk slowly settled in. The service was impeccable, the food excellent quality, and the grounds beautiful. Great experience. Be sure to make reservations, especially on weekends, as the place fills up. ”

“ I recently had the pleasure of dining at my friend's favorite restaurant in Placerville, and I was thoroughly impressed. The menu offered a fantastic selection, but we couldn't resist the special: steak with lobster. It was a delightful combination that exceeded my expectations. We also tried the special gnocchi, which was rich and flavorful, and finished our meal with a creme brulee that was simply divine. To complement our meal, we enjoyed a bottle of Tannat from a local winery, Shadow Ranch. This wine paired beautifully with our dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience. The only downside was the cold temperature in the cellar where we were seated, which made it a bit uncomfortable. Despite that, the quality of the food and the wonderful atmosphere made for a memorable evening. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu! ”

“ The food was fantastic. Pretty straight forward classic menu...most of the table went with the "black and white" which was a beautiful fillet mignon steak with some mashed potatoes, prawns and asparagus. Beautiful cuts of meet, but we all thought the med/rares were closer to rare and the medium was med/rare...so I'd order one level higher cooking next time. The Jambalaya was good, but really heavy on the corn which gave a lot more sweetness than I'd expect/want in a gumbo or Jambalaya. Nice outside...but the mosquitoes were thick and would suggest eating inside if the bigs are out, but otherwise great outside dining with some live music. ”

VERY worth the trip for just that experience alone stepping into the past over 100 years [note: getting to the lower dining/mines area requires navigating steep stairwell down & back.] -- Lots of historic photos on historic walls. -- Large, inviting, modern outdoor seating area. -- Decent menu. Yes bars upstairs & down, but no hard liquor license. ”

“ I’ve enjoyed both lunch and brunch at Smith Flat House. The patio is spacious and inviting. The service is gracious, friendly and accommodating. During one luncheon, with over 100 ladies, they served us with alacrity. The salads were fresh and filling. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the butternut risotto was creamy and flavorful. During Father’s Day brunch, we sat on the beautiful patio. Service was wonderful. The food was delicious. We had eggs, biscuits and gravy and breakfast potatoes. Everything was fresh and flavorful. ”
